Recipients of the 2024 Xavier-Kuangchi Awards for Exemplary Alumni

26 November 2024

To the Xavier Community:

The Xavier School Board of Trustees is pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Xavier-Kuangchi Award for Exemplary Alumni:  two graduates of Xavier School whose sustained commitment to and leadership of socio-civic organizations provide inspiration to us all.

CRISPIN CHENG DY, JR. (Class of 1973)
李松茂

The Xavier School community is proud to recognize Crispin Dy of XS ’73, for his four decades of engagement with and leadership of the Junior Chamber international (JCI), a global non-profit organization with a presence in over 100 countries. After first joining JCI in 1982, Cris swiftly rose through its ranks to successively become President of JCI Makati, then National President, and eventually World President and Chairman of the World Senate in 1997. To this day, Cris continues to be involved with the Jaycees, as Chairman and President of the JCI Makati Senate.

Cris has not limited his sharing of his gifts of time and talent to just the JCI. He has also been deeply involved with and assumed leadership roles with the Rotary Club of Makati Central, the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals, and the Subic Bay Freeport Chamber of Commerce.

We believe that Cris is truly an exemplary alumnus of Xavier School, not just because of the leadership roles he has assumed in these socio-civic organizations, but especially the long list of his achievements and the many beneficiaries of his projects when he held these positions of leadership.

REGINALD TIENG YU (Class of 1984)
李尚強

We are proud to recognize Reginald Yu, XS ’84, for his tireless commitment to service and excellence, through over four decades of engagement with and leadership of a broad cross section of organizations, including the Rotary Club of Manila and the Rotary Foundation, Junior Chamber International (JCI) Philippines and the Philippine Jaycees Senate Foundation, Anvil Business Club, the Philippine Association of Management Accountants, the Philippine Hong Tei Cultural Association (菲律賓鳳池同鄉會), and our very own Alumni Association of Xavier School. In each of these, he has never been content to simply be an active member, but has in every case played significant leadership roles, typically rising to become President.

Reggie’s service to society has previously been acknowledged by different bodies, including recognition as the Most Outstanding JCI Member of the World in 2004; The Most Outstanding JCI Senator of the World in 2005; and Star Rotarian of the Year in 2020. We are pleased to add our own Xavier-Kuangchi Award to his list of honors, a recognition of this exemplary alumnus from his Xavier School family.

We thank Cris and Reggie for dedicating so much of their lives to the service of others, giving generously of their time and resources, and truly living up to our Xavier School ideals. We are proud to bestow this award upon them and look forward to sharing their stories in greater detail at the awarding ceremonies that will be held on December 6, 2024.

May their example inspire other members of our Xavier community to similarly explore life choices that may lead them toward the path of greater service to the Filipino people.

We thank the Xavier community, and in particular the Selection Committee for the Xavier-Kuangchi Awards for Exemplary Alumni, chaired by Mr. Rudy Ang, XS ’79, for their involvement in and leadership of this year’s search process.
