Xavier School received its second “Best Private Elementary School — NCR Award” at the Regional Gawad KALASAG National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) Culminating Activity last July 30, 2019.   The event took place at  the Armed Forces Commissioned Officers’ Clubhouse at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

This follows Xavier School’s big win at the 20th National Gawad KALASAG Awards Ceremony last December where the school won top honors for its accomplishments and contributions to the national effort to build a safer, climate change-adaptive and disaster-resilient Philippines, worthy of recognition and emulation by the people.

The Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) and the Office of Civil Defense-National Capital Region (OCD-NCR) have again acknowledged the school’s disaster preparedness plan and risk reduction management, specifically its efforts to make Xavier School an enabling environment, its efforts to provide safe learning conditions, its school disaster risk management, and how it has integrated disaster risk reduction in education.

Accepting the award on behalf of the school were San Juan City Vice-Mayor José Warren P. Villa,  Mrs. Jane Cacacho (GS Principal), Mr. Gerardo Castañeda (Security Coordinator), Ms. Maritess Elizalde (Campus Operations Coordinator), and Mrs. Josefina Galvez (School Registrar).   Xavier School will join this year’s National Gawad KALASAG Awards as the National Capital Region’s entry in the “Private Elementary School” category.

Gawad KALASAG stands for “Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan.” The award was launched in 1998 to recognize outstanding contributions in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), as well as humanitarian response and action, especially at the local level.
