Born for Greater Things, Feast of St. Ignatius 2019

Dear Friends in the Xavier Family,

The theme for this year’s celebration of the feast of St Ignatius Loyola is “born for greater things.” It is a quote from the young Jesuit Saint, Stanislaus Kostka, who strove to follow Jesus despite many obstacles. When others wanted him to live a comfortable life instead of following his conscience, he said that his interest was eternity because he was “born for greater things.”

Saint Ignatius taught us to be focused on what will give greater glory to God, and to pursue it even in the face of difficulties. At a time when our surrounding culture challenges basic human values, and technology has not always elevated the quality of our interactions, let us not lose our drive to aspire for what is true, good, and beautiful. Let us join young people like St. Stanislaus in dauntlessly following Jesus!

Happy feast day to one and all!
